Professor Mo Saraee, Director
Chair in Data Science and Head of Computer Science and Software Engineering
Mo Saraee is the director of Data science and AI Hub. He is a professor of Data Science at the School of Science, Engineering and Environment, University of Salford. He is also the Programme Leader for MSc Data Science course. His research focuses on Data Science, Big Data Analytics and Medical Informatics, with over 140 publications in top-tier journals and international conference presentations. Mo’s research has addressed multi-disciplinary, cross-school topics with transformative impact, benefiting local communities, dedication to action through real-world application of research including work with both Salford City Council and the NHS.

Dr Kaveh Kiani
Lecturer in Data Science
With a doctoral degree in Applied Statistics and an additional master’s degree in data science, Kaveh Kiani boasts proficiency across diverse domains. His research interest is concentrated on computer vision, big data analytics, the application of generative AI in education and survival analysis. With a rich 15-year background in the industry, he has amassed considerable expertise in Official Statistics and large-scale Register-based Statistical Systems, along with Statistical Systems of large organisations.
Kaveh has successfully mentored numerous PhD and MSc students in their dissertation projects. He has published numerous impactful papers in peer-reviewed journals. The Royal Academy of Engineering has endorsed Kaveh as a Global Talent in the field of Data Science. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) awarded by Advance HE. Also, he has obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP).

Dr Azadeh Mohammadi
Lecturer in Data Science
Dr. Azadeh Mohammadi got her PhD in Computer Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and holds a Master’s degree with specialisation in Data Mining. Azadeh has more than 15 years of teaching experience at the universities of Iran and United Kingdom. Her research interests include machine learning and data mining, social network analysis, natural language processing and medical mining and has published high impact papers in top-tier journals and conferences.
She has served as a reviewer for renowned journals published by Springer, ScienceDirect, and IEEE. Moreover, she has been invited to deliver talks and workshops on social network analysis at various conferences.

Dr Surbhi Bhatia Khan
Lecturer in Data Science
Surbhi Bhatia Khan is a doctorate in computer science and engineering in the area of machine learning, and social media analytics. She has more than 11 years of academic and teaching experience in different universities. She has published 100+ papers in many reputed journals in high indexed outlets and has around 12 international patents from India, Australia and USA. Dr Khan has completed research funded projects from Deanship of Scientific Research, Ministry of Education from Saudi Arabia, and India. She has recently submitted the UKRI project as a Co-I with the grant of £400K in the AHRC funder scheme.
Her area of interests are Information Systems, Sentiment Analysis, Machine Learning, Databases, and Data Science

Dr Taha Mansouri
Lecturer in Data Science
Taha holds a Ph.D. in IT (Intelligent Systems) and an MSc in the same field. He possesses 18 years of experience in various large-scale real-world projects, along with 11 years of academic experience. Taha’s research interests focus on deep learning, NLP, and Computer Vision, and he has published numerous impactful papers in prestigious peer-reviewed journals. Taha’s notable qualifications, extensive industrial experience, academic collaborations. He has a successful research track record have enabled him to actively engage in teaching, research, and industrial partnerships. As a testament to his achievements, Taha has been recently shortlisted as the best business collaborator in the annual celebration of innovation at the University of Salford, held on July 3rd, 2023.

Dr Sadaqat ur Rehman
Lecturer in Artificial Intelligence
Sadaqat ur Rehman is an experienced computer scientist with more than 11 years of cutting-edge research and teaching experience in prestigious institutes. He has supervised several PhD, MS and undergraduate students in their dissertation. Sadaqat has co-authored more than 70 research papers, including in leading international journals and peer-reviewed international conference proceedings.
He is recognised as a Global Talent in the area of Artificial Intelligence by UK Research and Innovation Body and Royal Academy of Engineering.

Nathan Topping
Lecturer in Data Science
Nathan Topping is a Lecturer in Data Science and delivers teaching across a number of modules on the MSc Data Science and MSc Internet of Things with Data Science programmes. He covers topics including databases, big data tools, data visualisation, statistics, and machine learning. He has an industry background working as a Data Scientist and has research interests spanning AI fairness, medical data mining and generative AI.
